Translating brain science into performance, health, and clearer decisions

About

Dr Nick Hayward
MA (Cantab) MNatSci MBBS FRCR PhD

I’ve devoted decades to researching and reading brains.

That path has taken me to Cambridge University as a natural scientist, through a PhD in neuroscience and brain imaging in Finland, to Imperial College London – where I qualified in medicine and surgery with starred distinctions.

I’ve since spent over ten years in NHS clinical practice across multiple specialties, and now work as a radiologist at Oxford University Hospitals. Along the way, I’ve led clinical studies, worked in medtech as a clinical safety officer, published research with over 1,100 citations, and spoken internationally on brain health — from Hawaii to Helsinki.

I translate neuroscience and clinical experience into insight that’s both scientifically grounded and practically useful — for individuals who want to perform at their best, and for organisations building products, programmes, or strategies where the brain is the business. And the organisations and companies building in this space may need clinical and scientific rigour to do it credibly.

Services

Four ways I can help when thinking clearly matters:

Keynote Speaking & Workshops

Talks and small-group sessions for corporate, conference, and sports audiences. I focus on how the brain actually performs under pressure — translating neuroscience into practical ways of thinking about decision-making, cognitive load, and consistency.

Media & Expert Commentary

I give to podcasts, press, and broadcast where a clear, evidence-based view on brain health and performance is needed. The aim is to bring a more medically and scientifically grounded perspectives to health and technology conversations.

Advisory & Clinical Strategy

Clinical and scientific contributions for healthtech and medtech — from early product thinking through to clinical safety (CSO certified), evaluation, and due diligence. I bring a perspective grounded in both frontline medicine and brain science, particularly where products intersect with cognition, behaviour, or risk.

Medical Education

Development and delivery of specialist teaching in neuroscience and neuroimaging for professional audiences. This includes structured education programmes, platform-based learning, and contributions to continuing medical education.
